The Four Ways To Quit Drinking Alcohol And Get Treatment

Many drinkers realize when the moment feels right to give up drinking and get alcohol treatment. Some end up with severe medical problems that require help along the way to give up drinking, while others just get tired of holding the bottle in their hand.

There are four different ways to give up drinking alcohol:

1) Through a medical intervention program.

2) Through an AA-style guilt based program.

3) Through a self-empowering program.

4) Cold-turkey alone without any help.

Every one of these ways to give up drinking is a good way to go, if it fits your needs and future lifestyle goals. The program style-choice that you select will be directing how you function in your after-drinking life to some degree.

When a medical intervention is needed, after the intervention people have the choice between the guilt-based programs, and the self empowering programs, so it is important to understand the differences in order to make the right choice for your needs.

Ten-step or AA-style of programs encourages drinkers to stay away from alcohol through a series of humiliations designed to cause a guilty feeling if the bottle is touched again. The drinker is told that they will be letting family, coworkers, friends, and God down if they do not rearrange their lives into something that always pleases these people.

Self empowering programs take the approach that the drinker does not need to worry about pleasing other people, and that they should be working on their own personal happiness for a fulfilling life. The theory is that once the drinker is happy about their own life and accomplishments, that all others will be happy with the drinker too.

Between the AA-style of programs and the self empowering programs, there are success stories logged under each. The long-term success rates differ between the programs with the self empowering groups showing better outcomes. It is up to the individual to decide what approach to stopping drinking is right for their lifestyle and personality traits.

As I am sure you are aware to quit drinking it will not be an easy ride and you will most likely need the help of friends and family if not an alcohol abuse treatment center. No matter what option you choose to pick to stop drinking make sure and get help if you have a serious drinking problem that is affecting you or others in your life. Many people today are taking the non-traditional approach and seeking help as an outpatient
